| So the lead singer from Electric Six decides to jump offstage midsong to hug Natalie and me.
Then he gets back on stage for a minute or two and jumps back down to hug Miko, then some people standing behind us.
Two songs later, he strips and sings "Jimmy Carter" in his boxers "for all the ladies and the homosexuals."
So anyway, last night's show was great. We totally never expected their lead to be a skinny white guy that looks like every other skinny white guy in every indie band ever. But, he and his band make some kickass music, so who cares? :)
Also cheers to The Woggles, their openers, for dressing like they're from the 60s and playing half of their set either down in the pit or dancing on top of the fucking bar. I've never quite seen a band do that before. God bless the Social for letting it happen. | Every time I play Random in our Frozen Throne games, I get NightElf. As a result, I'm pretty good with Nightelf, but I want to get better with some of the other stuff. Still, I don't really care which one I play, so I stay random. I won't get Nightelf again, right?
Tonight, Bob, our Christian neighbor friend guy, revealed a secret: he was praying that I would get nightelf again in the last game. The other three people were playing the other races and I went random, so he wanted all of them represented. Unfortunately, I've been having this problem throughout the past month. It also continued into the game following the one where he prayed for it. So either God really likes Bob, God has terrible aim that causes him to grant Bob's requests for an extra-wide time range, or God just wants me to play Nightelf. Perhaps Warcraft 3 was created by the angels in order to find a tactical genius to command heaven's forces, but in this case, that would mean God is a tree. That just doesn't happen unless you're playing Secret of Mana. Crazy trees.
Canada trip begins Friday morning. Hope they have Internet!

So either Portis or Jason left Matt's car's light on and his battery died. I let Matt jump it from mine and he fucked it up and hooked both of the nodes on his end to the fusebox. The cables start to melt. I run in the house like DUDES, NEED SOMETHING TO TAKE CABLES OFF NOW and they're like "wtf" and grab the oven mitts. So he, like, short circuited the hell out of the cable. My car appears to be fine, but I'm going to the mechanic for an oil change on wednesday morning anyway, so I'll have him check the battery and if it's not perfect, it's totally Matt. We jumped Matt's car from Jon's car and all is well. Matt gave me his jumper cables since he fucked mine.

| My paper got accepted for Publication. I'm going to The Canadian Conference on Computer and Robot Vision in May. Score one for the grad school resume!
The Ska is Dead tour last night was an absolutely great concert. I've never been to a ska show before, but I can say that I definitely prefer the crowd they attract to that of my normal indie concerts. They're a little younger, but they're not afraid to move around; there are less retards standing with their arms crossed. Less of them smoke, too. Voodoo Glow Skulls play a bit harder than I prefer, but I loved Streetlight Mannifesto. My best surprise of the night was The Know Hows. They were semi-local, but sounded great and used catchy synth stuff. It was like a reincarnation of the Hippos. I'm a terrible whore for synth, so predictably, I love it. Mu330 had some songs I enjoyed too, but were more hit and miss. Everything was definitely tons of fun and I still can't hear right yet. I've also got to thank my awesome girlfriend for coming to this show. It'd only have been half the fun without someone to share it with.
Gooncamp dates are announced and look good to me. I'm totally down for that.
So overall, yeah, things are pretty freakin' good. Now for some sleep and a random picture.

I'm working on my paper all weekend. IEEE has due dates. Oh man, W T F. My mousing hand is sore from designing the figures and I'm not nearly done yet. This image of a goose is my only salvation. I made him my wallpaper and all I have to do is look at the monitor on the right and I'm all, "lol goose lol" because he's so silly looking!
The new Elecric Six album is leaked and awesome. <3 Elecric Six I'm also enjoying Stars and Manic Street Preachers, both of whose albums I just got this week.
Lobo has told me to encourage Miko and Wade not to do any partying for the next three months because they have to do work for his class and wade has some crazy PHD qualifying exam thing coming up. If they invite me over, I am to instead suggest that they come over here and discuss computer vision algorithms with me instead!

| Traffic on the way to Altamonte Cinema 8 is crazy. 436 is a road not hindered by such things as "Saturday isn't supposed to have rush hour." If you're going there, be sure to leave frightfully early or you and your date might find yourselves blowing the time required for the "dinner" part of "dinner and a movie" on the "driving."
When you get there, it's a creepy, creepy theater. Nobody is in the ticket booth, but the doors are open. You poke your head in and two guys behind the counter greet you. They sell tickets from the snack bar and appear to be the only two employees in the building. We bought our tickets and didn't receive even a piece of paper to indicate such. They get so few customers that they know they can remember us. When we bought our "tickets," they marked on a tally how many people should be in there. Ten minutes before the start time, we were tickets 3 and 4. Total attendance was around 10 by the time it started. There were no previews.
Donnie Darko Director's Cut is great. They added more trippy effects, cool cinemetography, and story elements that previously could only be learned from reading rumors on the internets. The relgious elements are played up too, but it's more pushing agnosticism than anything. It's also awesome to see with someone who's never seen the movie before. Shoot, the best part of Donnie Darko is getting other people to watch it.
On the way out of the theater, I noticed a dirty, streaked handprint on the outside of the exit door. It looked straight out of every zombie movie ever. Very creepy.

| So apparently, "strait" is an old word meaning "tight." The slang, "That's strait" evolved from "That's tight." Therefore, "that's strait" is slang that evolved from other slang through the substitution of an archaic meaning for a synonym. What crazy English-major thug thought that one up? Still, imagine all the fun to be had with saying girls are "straight"/"strait." There's no difference in pronunciation and rather different meanings.
Also, I've learned that "disinterested" means neutral. "Uninterested" indicates a lack of interest. "Disinterested" used to mean "uninterested" when it was first coined, but the meaning has shifted and now the old is considered incorrect. I always thought they were the same.
English is awesome sometimes.
